This is a tutorial on how to drape your cake board to look like fabric with lovely folds and embedded roses, pearls and sugar jewelries. This cake board has the “Wow” factor and is sure to impress anyone. I use them mostly for my Jewelry Gift Box Cakes but can be used with a variety of cakes.

PROCEDURE:

(1) Roll out white fondant to about 2 mm thick (Thickness for draping cakes).

(2) Cover the cake board with the fondant. Do not apply water to the cake board. The fondant should be enough to cover the board and flow to the sides.

(3) Place the cake pan on the board. It should be placed more to the back of the board. The cake pan will help mark out the area where the cake will sit. That area will remain flat.

(4) Begin the process of folding the fondant on the cake board. Do this in front of the board and to the sides. Leave the back flat as that is where you will slide the cake in through.

(5) Embed the roses into the fondant using a little bit of water.

(6) Remove the cake pan. Using your brush, apply water to the edges of the cake board and press down the fondant at the edges so it sticks to the cake board.

(7) Use your pizza cutter to cut off the excess fondant. Leave the fondant to dry this way for some hours.

(8) When the fondant has dried, mix white pearl dust with vodka and use it to brush the fondant and roses. This will make the board look silky. You do not need to brush the area where the cake will sit.

(9) Next, embed white sugar pearls in the cake board. The vodka mixture will help them stick. Leave this to dry before using.
