A friend of mine gave me a call early one morning and asked for a baby shower cake. She had no idea about what she wanted, but wanted it within twenty four hours. Oh, and it had to have navy blue and red as those were the colors of the party. I immediately thought about doing a cake with an argyle pattern on the sides as that was a technique I was yet to try out.

This cake is a 9 inch French Vanilla Sponge frosted with vanilla butter cream and covered with marshmallow fondant.

I decided to incorporate the two colors in the argyle pattern on the sides of the cake. I also decided to make purple the 3rd color here for some balance (Blue + Red = Purple).

I settled for an elephant as the topper for this cake. I have a tutorial on how to make this fondant elephant. It can be found here.

The elephant is sitting on a white blanket. Also on the blanket is a baby rattle and safety pin. I also included some colored hearts on the blanket.

I decided to write the words “It’s a boy” on the blanket in case anyone was wondering about the sex of the baby.

I was really happy with the out come of this cake being that I had very limited time to execute it.
