This tutorial is on how to make a bassinet cake like the one in the picture above. In terms of technicality, this is not a difficult cake to execute. It however has a lot of elements to it, some of which need to be carried out in advance. To get links to the recipes used for this cake, click here.

TUTORIAL:

(1) First, make the hood of the bassinet. To do this, cover a Wilton 6 inch ball pan with white fondant and leave to dry for about 24 hours. Be sure to dust the pan with icing sugar before covering with fondant so the fondant does not stick to the pan. After 24 hours, use a sharp blade to divide the fondant cover into 2. Remove half and leave the other half to dry completely. This could take a couple more days. When the fondant is completely dry, create the web design using yellow fondant and white sugar pearls.

(9) Finish the cake with yellow bows on the body of the bassinet and the top of the hood. You can use this simply tutorial on how to make bow ties to make your bows. Transfer the completed cake along with the baby cow to the cake board. That’s all there is to it. Happy caking!
