Fondant Iron Rods Tutorial

This is a post on how to make fondant iron rods like those in the picture above. They can be used as accessories for construction type cakes like the concrete block cake below.

Concrete

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

TOOLS:

(1) Floral Wires

(2) Styrofoam Block

(3) Sharp Blade

(4) Fondant Wheel/Embosser

EDIBLE COMPONENTS:

(1) Fondant

(2) Grey Color Paste

(3) Water

(4) Vodka

(5) Silver Luster Dust

PROCEDURE:

(1) Color fondant grey and roll it out into logs. Leave the logs to air dry for some hours so they are easy to handle without losing shape. Cut our floral wires and set aside.

(2) When the logs are dry enough to handle. cut them into appropriate lengths and insert the floral wires into them. Insert the base of the wires into a Styrofoam block.

(3) Roll out strings of grey fondant, brush the rods with a bit of water and wrap them with the fondant strings creating a spiral pattern. Use an embosser to make dents on the strings.

(4) Brush the rods with a vodka and silver luster dust mixture and leave them to dry. Insert the rods into your completed cake.
