In this tutorial, I will be showing you how to make this Church Building Cake. This cake is an interpretation of an actual church building (Picture below). I used my method of dry fondant paneling to achieve most of the design here. Please read my detailed post on that here for a better understanding of the procedures below. THE PROCESS:

Carving and Frosting:

Th measurement of this cake is 10″ x 13″ x 6″. To achieve this size, I baked four 10 inch square cakes. Each sponge was leveled and divided into 2 layers. The first 3 sponges were stacked on each other in front of the cake. The last sponge was divided into three 3″ rectangles and stacked at the back. A few domed cut offs were placed on top of the cake. The Whole cake was then carved using my created stencil as a guide and frosted. Cake was chilled after frosting.

Designing:

(1) Create the panels for the sides of the building. Make a template for the front and back of the building and use it in making the templates. Allow these to dry. My notes on how to make dry fondant panels explains this process.

(2) Next, cover your cake board with fondant. I used a letter mould to create the message in front of the cake board.

(3) Make the mini conifer trees which go to the surroundings of the building.

(4) Spread some melted white chocolate on the cake board and place the frosted cake on the board.

(5) Cover the sides of the cake with the panels using some melted white chocolate to secure them to each other.

(6) Make the domed roof out of dark brown fondant and transfer this to the cake in strips. If you try to transfer it as a whole, it might tear and lose shape. I brushed the roof with vodka after I was done laying it. I also placed the front facade when I was done roofing.

(7) With the building completed, move on to landscaping. Place small green rectangular fondant pieces around the building.

(8) Follow this by placing the trees and flowers. The flowers were made using a small flower cutter.

(9) Finish the cake by adding fixtures like the windows, lights, et cetera. That’s all there is to it. Happy Caking.
