Diamond Patterned Cake with Dramatic Bow
This was a cake I made because I wanted to experiment with shapes and proportions. It is a round ivory and juniper green cake with a dramatic white and juniper green bow and a red pearl brooch. The central piece of this cake is of course the large bow which shadows over almost half of the cake. I really did have fun creating this piece and I was very pleased with the final results.
The cake itself is an 8 inch round French vanilla sponge cake frosted with vanilla buttercream frosting. All the design work was done with marshmallow fondant. A tutorial on how this cake was made can be found here.
Aside from the dramatic bow, another feature of this cake I want to draw your attention to is the cushion effect I created with the diamond pattern. Unlike my usual diamond patterned cakes, I decided to go an extra mile with this cake and try out the cushion technique. A post on how to achieve this look can be found here.
The beauty about cakes like these is that they provide a blank canvas for you to create any design you want to create. By changing the cake topper, you could change the nature and look of the cake like I did below by placing this peach stiletto fondant shoe on the cake.
Below are other views of the cake.
It’s lovely
Thanks
