Ranch dressing is a type of salad dressing made with buttermilk, sour cream, salt, garlic and herbs like chives, parsley and dill. It also makes a great dip for vegetables. Though you can always buy a bottle in your local grocery store, this is a tutorial on how to make your own ranch dressing from scratch.

INGREDIENTS:

(1) 1 Egg Yolk

(2) 1/2 Teaspoon Dijon Mustard

(3) 1/4 Teaspoon Salt

(4) 1 Teaspoon White Wine Vinegar

(5) 1 Teaspoon Lemon Juice

(6) 1/2 Cup Sour Cream (or Greek Yogurt)

(7) 1 Teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce

(8) About 1/4 Cup Buttermilk

(9) 1/4 Cup Minced Parsley

(10) 1 Tablespoon Minced Chives

(11) 1 Tablespoon Minced Dill

(12) 1/2 Teaspoon Ground Black Pepper

(14) 1/4 Teaspoon Paprika

(15) 1/8 Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper

(16) About 1 Cup Neutral Oil (Like canola, peanut, corn, etc. Do not use Olive oil)

(17) 1 Clove of Garlic

PROCEDURE:

(1) Place the egg yolk, dijon mustard, salt, white wine vinegar and lemon juice in a bowl.

(2) With a whisk in one hand and the oil in another, start whisking the yolk mixture while pouring the oil in drizzles. Keep doing this until you get a thick cream. This my friends is Mayonnaise. Read more on how to make mayonnaise here.

TIP: For an easier ranch dressing, you can start with store bought mayonnaise and add all the other ingredients.

(3) Mince all your herbs and garlic and add to the mayonnaise along with all the other ingredients apart from the buttermilk. Mix to combine.

(4) Add the buttermilk in tablespoon increments until you achieve the consistency you like.

(5) Store ranch dressing in the fridge.
