This is a “Just Because” Cake I made for a colleague. I was initially going to do a Tree Stump Cake, but after making the frog topper, I decided that a swamp cake would be more appropriate. It was a hit.

This is a 10 inch Coconut Sponge Cake filled with Lemon Curd and frosted with Coconut Buttercream. The sugar work on the cake was done with Marshmallow fondant.

The star of this cake is of cause the frog. He is sitting on a large lily pad surrounded by other smaller lily flowers.  I have a pictorial on how I made this frog. It can be found here. Below is a short fun video clip below.

Behind the frog and sitting on a rock is a sea turtle basking in the sun.

There are rocks and pebbles surrounding the pond. Some of the pebbles are marbled which makes them look really cool.

Around the cake are some sea weeds. There are also some weeds on top of the cake. One regret I have with this cake is that I did not put more seaweeds on top of the cake itself. This would have given it a wilder look.

At the base of the cake are a couple of crocodiles partially submerged in the pond.

Though it might not be noticeable, the top of this cake is actually slanted to show off the frog and all the other details. This is the second time I am making a slated cake, the first was a traditional African wedding cake.
