This was a cake for a 3 year old princess who was already becoming a bag enthusiast. I was given two instructions: the cake should have a bag and it should be pink. This was the very first time I was making a bag cake and I was filled with excitement. In this cake I combined both new and old techniques to achieve a masterpiece which is still being requested for.

This is a two tier cake. The top tier is a red velvet cake frosted with cream cheese frosting. The bottom tier is a French Vanilla Sponge cake frosted with vanilla buttercream. Both cakes are covered with marshmallow fondant. You can read more about how this cake was made here.

The bottom tier was covered with baby pink fondant with  a diamond pattern embedded with Pink sugar pearls.

The top of the bottom tier was then covered with a square towel made in my signature quilt pattern. I was able to introduce other colors in the quilt design, thus breaking the “pinkness” of the cake.

The top tier was constructed on the bottom tier to minimize the chances of accidents during transfer. It is a rose pink purse with gold details. The celebrants name and age were later placed in front of the constructed purse. The age was bedazzled in green sugar crystals.

One important fact about this cake is that everything on it is edible, from the wooden floor to the golden bag ornaments. This goes with my cake philosophy: It is a cake, it is to be eaten.

This cake was also the inspiration for the purse cake below which can be found here.
