Purple Bows and Zebra Cake
This is a 2 tier birthday cake consisting of an 8 inch cake on top of a 10 inch cake. The top tier is pink with purple and black dots of various sizes. The bottom tier is a black and white zebra print.
What stands out on this cake are the purple bows. This was the first time I was making this type of bow and I was very excited when I nailed the bow on the lower cake that I just had to make another one for the cake topper. A tutorial on how to make these bows can be found here.
The zebra print of the bottom tier was made by sticking black fondant on a white covered cake.
I love the top of this cake a lot. The 10 was placed on top of the cake after the bow had had time to dry. The ribbons were the last things to be placed on the cake. I tried to make the ribbons interact with the 10 by passing a couple of them through it. The ribbons were made by wrapping fondant strings around the body of a paint brush.
On the whole, this is a perfect cake fitting a 10 year own princess.
