In this tutorial, I will be showing you how to make fondant lipsticks like the one in the picture above. The process involves rolling fondant into logs, wrapping the fondant logs with fondant sheets and painting portions of it with silver luster dust. Floral wires were also used for the structure of the lipsticks. Of course there are various other ways of making fondant lipsticks. This is just my own way of doing it.

PROCEDURE:

(1) Color fondant black and roll into a smooth log. Greasing your palms with a bit of shortening before rolling the fondant will help you achieve a smooth log. Your fondant should be firm so that it keeps shape after rolling.

(2) Leave the log to dry until firm and cut into into shorter logs of about 1.5 inches high. Ensure the base of each log is flat to they stand upright.

(3) While the black fondant log is drying, roll out red fondant into a thinner log and leave to firm up. When firm, cut the log into smaller logs of about 2 inches high. Cut one end of the logs diagonally to create slops which will serve as the tip of the lipstick.

(4) Insert floral wires into the middle of the black fondant logs and insert the other end of the wires into the red logs to create the structure of the lipstick. It is important that your fondant logs are firm or the red portion will bend or tilt as it sits after it has been attached to the black portion.

(5) Roll grey fondant into a rectangle about an inch high and wrap the base of the red log with it.

(5) Cut a thick string of grey fondant and place it just above the black fondant log. The string of grey fondant should be thick enough to align with the black portion of the lipstick when stuck to the lipstick. With this, the structure of the lipstick is complete.

(6) Finishing.

i. Mix silver luster dust with vodka and brush the grey portions of the lipstick with this mixture.

ii. Mix vodka with corn syrup and brush the red and black portions of the lipstick to make them glossy.

iii. When the silver portion of the lipstick is dry, use an edible black marker to brand them. This can also be done with a pointed brush and black color paste.

(7) Leave the lipstick to dry properly before placing it on your cake. That’s all there is to it. Happy caking!

Nice one again Boss! Instead of waiting for fondant to dry and firm up before using for the lipstick and some other creations, we could use flower paste or add extra cmc to the fondant…

  11. Can we use edible spirit in place of vodka with the corn syrup?
