This is a tutorial on how to make soccer boots. These boots can be used as toppers for soccer themed cakes. These fondant boots are easy to make and need only a few basic tools.

PROCEDURE:

(1) Print out a fondant boots template from the web. This can be found online with a simple google search of “fondant boots template.” Cut out the templates. (I actually did a google search, clicked on the picture, placed a sheet of paper on my laptop screen, used a pen to trace out the templates on the paper and cut them out.).

(2) Work on the sole. Roll out black and white fondant and leave these to air dry for about 30 minutes. Cut out two black soles using the template. Brush the white fondant with a bit of water, place the black soles on it and cut out the white part of the soles. Cut out thinner white insoles and stick them on the sole. Use a petal cutter to cut out the pattern on the sole and stick this to the sole. Leave the sole to dry for about 30 minutes before continuing. This drying period is not important but helps make your life easier when attaching the top of the boots to the sole.

(3) Next, work on the top of the boots. Cut out the parts of the top using the stencil and stick them together. Use a small round pipping tip to make the lace holes. Use the stitching wheel where appropriate to create patterns on the boots. Finish the design with white fondant strips and brush the black portions of the boots with a bit of water, vodka or shortening to remove icing sugar or corn starch residue. I always brush with shortening when working with black fondant as it eliminates the possibility of the black color running and staining the other colors.

(4) Brush the top edges of the soles with a bit of water or vodka and stick the top of the boots to the soles. I suggest allowing the boots to dry for about half day before working on the laces and flaps as it is easier to work on these elements after the top of the boot is dry. This is just a suggestion and need not be followed.

(5) Stick the remaining cutouts to the boots along with the lace and the flaps.

(6) Cut out round thick fondant circles and stick to the bottom of the boots to make the boot spikes.
