Fondant Captain America Shield Tutorial

This is a tutorial on how to make a Captain America shield like the one above. This is an easy cake topper made with a variety of cutters. It was used as an element on the Avengers Cake below.

TOOLS:

(1) Circle Cookie Cutters of Various Sizes

(2) A Small Star Cutter

(3) A Ball Pan or any other Spherical Object

(4) Paint Brush

(5) Rolling Pin

EDIBLE COMPONENTS:

(1) Fondant

(2) Water

(3) Corn Syrup

(4) Vodka

(5) Food Color

PROCEDURE:

(1) Color and roll out red, royal blue and light grey fondant. Using round cookie cutters, cut out a large red circle and a smaller grey circle. Use a smaller round cutter to cut out the middle of the grey circle to create a ring. Cut out a small royal blue circle and a small grey star which fits into the circle.

(2) Using a bit of water, stick all the parts together.

(3) Dust your ball pan with a bit of icing sugar and place the shield on it. Leave it this way to dry.

(4) When the shield is dry, mix a 50/50 mixture of corn syrup and vodka and brush the shield working with one color at a time so as not to stain the other colors. Leave the shield to dry. The corn syrup and vodka mixture will make the shield glossy.
